Mike is a seasoned trial attorney, who has litigated thousands of criminal cases on both sides of the courtroom. With over a decade of experience, he provides strategic, effective representation at every stage of the criminal process – from pre-charge investigations to jury trials. Whether advising clients under investigation, negotiating with prosecutors, or litigating complex evidentiary issues, he focuses on positioning each client for the strongest possible outcome under the circumstances.
He intentionally maintains a selective caseload to ensure that every client receives the time, attention, and responsiveness each case demands. Clients are kept informed throughout the process and rely on his steady guidance during what is often a highly stressful experience.
As a criminal defense attorney, Mike has secured numerous dismissals and trial acquittals. His reputation has led other legal professionals – including police officers, FBI agents, and prosecutors – to retain him when facing criminal charges.
Before entering private practice, Mike served for over eight years as a prosecutor with the Boulder District Attorney’s Office, where he handled thousands of cases and tried more than ninety jury trials. As a Senior Deputy District Attorney in the Special Victims Unit, he prosecuted serious felony cases, including sex offenses, child abuse, and homicide. This experience provides a distinct advantage to his clients. It also offers valuable insight into how cases are investigated, charged, and tried – allowing him to anticipate prosecutorial strategies and navigate the system effectively.
In addition to criminal defense, he represents clients in school administrative matters, including Title IX actions, professional licensing matters, including DORA investigations, and civil protection order hearings. He also handles a limited number of plaintiff personal injury cases.
Mike earned his J.D. from the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law in 2013, where he served as an Editor of the Denver Law Review. During law school, he interned at the Denver District Attorney’s Office in both the Gang Prosecution Unit and County Court Division. He has since lectured at the University of Colorado School of Law and the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law and has trained attorneys and law enforcement on criminal investigation, criminal procedure, and trial advocacy.
Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Mike earned his B.A. from Bucknell University, where he was a member of the school’s Division 1 lacrosse team. He lives in Denver with his wife and two children.
