Mike is former senior prosecutor and a criminal litigation attorney in Denver, Colorado where he has practiced criminal law for his entire career. Mike spent over eight years as a prosecutor at the Boulder District Attorney’s Office. Mike appeared in court daily, prosecuted thousands of cases, and conducted over ninety jury trials. Mike spent his last five years in the office as a Senior Deputy District Attorney in the Special Victims Unit, where he supervised law enforcement in complex case investigations and prosecuted felony sex offenses, child abuse, and homicides. In 2019, Mike was awarded the Champions for Children Award for his outstanding courtroom advocacy for child victims of sexual assault.
Mike has trained law enforcement, prosecutors, victims’ advocates, and law students extensively throughout his career, regularly lecturing at the University of Colorado Law School. Mike left the DA’s office in 2021 and spent a year at a law firm before opening Petrash Law in 2022. As a criminal defense attorney, Mike has defended hundreds of people charged with offenses ranging from minor traffic offenses to serious felonies and white-collar crimes. Mike also defends people who are being investigated for criminal ffenses, helping them navigate the investigation process and protecting their rights.
Mike graduated from the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law in 2013. In law school, Mike was an Editor of the Denver Law Review and he interned at the Denver District Attorney’s Office in the Gang Prosecution Unit and in the County Court Division. He was also a teaching assistant in criminal procedure and criminal law.
Mike grew up in Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. He received his BA from Bucknell University where he was a member of the school’s Division 1 lacrosse team. He currently resides in Denver with his wife and two children.
